CULT, fine dining

Two renowned sommeliers running Blend, a winebar in Bruges, were in for a new adventure. They launched CULT, a gastronomic restaurant where they combine their love for wine and grilled meat. The location, adjacent to the Portinari hotel, the city of Bruges and its well known painters like Memling brought us great inspiration. This resulted in a dramatic setting with an intense play of clair-obscure and strong lighting versus a dark background enriched with interesting textures. The veranda is light and cosy and the bar in the back brings in the drama.

The burgundy red stained volume above the bar brings a spatial experience in the most dramatic environment. The arched openings cladded with steel nicely bring in the light from the veranda highlighting the volume. The top of the bar in dark red veined marble references the freshly cut meat served in the restaurant. The leather detail on the bar is a subtle extra appreciated by the ones in the know.

The cow hides installed as wall paneling bring a nice natural texture begging to be touched. The indirect lighting subtly highlights the texture. The dark background is the perfect canvas for the burgundy red furniture bringing in the lush colour of wine.

By making the functional waiter station reflective, it became an interesting feature cutting the veranda in two in an intriguing way.

The branding and interior were designed hand in hand. Dramatic lighting in photography, clair obscure contrasts and the play of red tones were the base for both. The sharp lining of the logo brings a bit of drama in the branding.
