Distortion of the Senses

Year:
2022
Client:
Houssine Skalli & Youssef Skalli

When two brothers from Brussels approached us to reimagine their bar, we responded with a design that feels like a surreal blend of desert mirage, M.C. Escher lithograph, and a dreamlike journey through Morocco.

Le Fay also inhabits the Touareg hookah bar, infusing it with an air of enchantment and mystique. Upon entry, the stucco arches immediately establish a connection to our distorted design concept. Arches made from chains introduce a visual surprise, evoking a sensual reference to Arabian belly dancers. Traditional Moroccan lights, patterned like rising smoke, cast a warm, golden hue across the room.

At Le Fay, we wove the concept of mirages into the space through illusions of the sun and organic shapes made from Moroccan brass climbing up the wall. Together, these elements create a layered, immersive experience that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality.
