McDonald’s Belgium approached us to redesign their historic first restaurant in Brussels, aiming to transform it into a global example of sustainable design. As the third location worldwide to adopt this new concept, the project needed to reflect McDonald’s evolving values.

The challenge was to integrate circular design principles into every aspect of the restaurant without compromising functionality or brand recognition. We developed a fully sustainable interior using over 80% PEFC-certified wood, recycled plastics, and Cradle-to-Cradle certified floors and ceilings. Unique design elements—like cork wall finishes, partitions made from recycled coffee grounds, and cardboard sunshades—bring texture and innovation to the space.

“Our new McDonald’s restaurant design bridges creativity and sustainability through a focus on décor circularity, elevating the way design meets the needs of our customers and employees,” said Stephen Douglas, Vice President, Global Restaurant Design at McDonald’s. “Not only does the new décor have a bright, optimistic look, but the circularity principles provide a sunny outlook to the future of how we will be feeding and fostering community.”
