Bath & Barley aimed to expand their beer spa concept to Bruges, enhancing the original Brussels experience while honouring the city's medieval charm. The design needed to integrate the location’s protected architectural features and elevate the sensory connection to Belgium’s beer heritage.

Working within the constraints of Bruges' historic architecture required careful preservation of authentic ceilings and domes. The design also had to balance modern wellness elements with traditional beer culture, creating a seamless, immersive experience across various spaces.

Copper domes, dried hops, and barley set the tone at the entrance, while a sunken bar with beer taps anchors the social area. The spa features hand-built loam walls, straw bedding, and stained-glass artwork, blending natural textures with medieval brewing motifs to create a calming, immersive retreat.

“With Bath & Barley, we set out to elevate the beerspa from a familiar, often playful concept into a refined experience rooted in Belgian beer culture. Together with WeWantMore, we translated that ambition into a high-quality, design-led wellness concept. A clear step up from what people may know from places like Prague. The strong response from both locals and international visitors, in Brussels and Bruges, confirms the success of that approach, proving there is real demand for a more premium and culturally grounded interpretation of beer.”
